Post Mom to two, diastasis reopening :(
Hello,
Not certain if this is still an active community or not, but I am looking for some "been there done that" women to help me brain storm some coping options and "where to go from here" questions.

Brief as possible I am the mommmy of two beutiful girls. I had some pubic pain with my eldest, but was misdiagnosed as having a varicose vain in my clitoris. She arrived at 38 weeks after 3 hours of pushing. She was a #9.3 baby and we had a bad shoulder dystocia which required two people to mannually press her through my pelvis by pushing down and through on my stomach. Needless to say we both arrived at the other end battered and bruised. I had sever pain for about 4 months following, but just pushed through the way we mommies tend to do and ignored it.
Then I got prego with daughter #2. I started having pelvic pain around 14 weeks but was able to use some of the pain managment techniqus I had picked up with the first pregnancy. (ice packs, positioning..) Then I hit 21 weeks and things were getting bad! I acidentally discovered online that I had the classic symptoms of PSD and after calling my OB, I was refered to a physical therapist who confirmed that was indeed what I was dealing with. In fact, she found out I was a whole mess of pelvic instability! I ended up with a "three finger" seperation of the pubic joint and spent the last 3 months of my pregancy on a walker and in a lot of pain. So much pain in fact that I didn't realize that I was in labor until my water broke and I could feel daughter #2 crowning! A quick ambulance ride to the hospital and she was delivered vaginally 12 minutes later. So much for the planned c- section.

Which brings me to today. I now have a 3 year old and a 7 month old. I experienced a deliriously fantastic improvment in the first couple of weeks after delivery, it was so nice to be able to cook for my family, and go for walks again. Sadly though in December I started loosing ground. My diastasis has tripled in size from where it was just 5 weeks ago, and I am having a lot of SI joint pain. My therapist is concerned and thinks it is time for a more agressive level of treatment. I am having trouble sleeping due to the pain and there are days that I think I may have to pull out my walker again.

 Any thoughts advice out there?

Post pelvic pain
Hi Spworks,

I know exactly how you feel.  Have you had any x-rays taken, especially  standing on one leg then the other to see if there is any vertical displacement .   A diastasis greater than 2.5cm can signify there is damage to the sacroiliac joints.  A bone scan can tell if you have any inflammation, (A bone scan is useful to see how the skeleton is reacting to any type of "stress," such as an injury, an infection, or inflammation from arthritis. This test involves injecting chemical "tracers" into your blood stream. The tracers then show up on special spine X-rays.).  The inflammation can be helped with medication from you doctor as well as pain.  Has anyone suggested a pelvic girdle and/or brace to help stabilize the pelvis.  Keep in touch and let me know how go.

Cheers,

Julie
